Trusting in the Lord, Not Self

Jeremiah 17:5-7

"Thus says the Lord: Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord."

When my life gets even more crazy and busy than usual, my time in the Word of God suffers! This verse explains in word pictures what happens. I am trying to really imagine what it would be like to be in a parched place in the wilderness.........an uninhabited salt land..............I am definitely thinking a very THIRSTY ME! God's word is the LIVING WATER. I am so thankful that God reminds us as, his children, we will be blessed when we trust in Him!

Today my "to do" list seems very overwhelming. (kids out the door, watching a newborn, homeschooling, laundry, changing out closets from summer to winter, cooking meals) If I trust in my own strength I am already feeling parched and thirsty. I feel overwhelmed and lacking joy. However, AFTER reading God's word, I am encouraged and dedicated to confessing my sin of self dependency and lack of a reliance on Christ! God's word is true and right. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord."
